Brown Sugar & Honey Facial Scrub

Over Christmas the family went on a Disney Cruise (which was phenomenal) and yours truly received a free facial (which was equally phenomenal). My skin felt so clean and fresh afterwards. I loved the way it felt so much that I didn't want to put make-up on for dinner! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to do my make-up and how big a deal it was for me to not want to do it.

Coming home I found myself in a tricky spot: How can I get another facial without paying $50-plus?!

Then I had a light-bulb moment. I had "pinned" homemade scrubs and masks on Pinterest that I had never tried! Curious to see if these worked I searched online for similar scrubs and treatments. Come to find out that brown sugar & honey is mother nature's present to your face. Here's why: 1) the individual pieces of sugar are just the right size to exfoliate the dead skin off and open up your pores and 2) honey is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory which is perfect for any blemishes you may have. And it smells really good too!

All you need is honey, brown sugar, a bowl, a spoon, your face!
I just used what I had in my pantry. Before you use this scrub on your face make sure you make do a patch test just to make sure you aren't allergic or sensitive to it! Just mix together the brown sugar and honey until you get a paste-like consistency where it doesn't feel too abrasive or dry when you rub it between your fingers. The captions to the pictures below have the proportions I used.

One kitchen teaspoon of brown sugar.

One kitchen teaspoon of honey.
This is a good time for you to mix the ingredients. It will help you determine how much honey to add. Mine seemed too dry so I added more honey.

Half-full spoon of honey. You can see what the paste should look like here.

Now you put it on your face! You can use your fingers or the back of the spoon to apply the scrub. Do whatever you find to be the best method. The Guinea Pig (the little sister, self-titled) offered to model for the next picture.

Apply the scrub in an even layer all over your face.
Once the scrub is applied to your face wash it off with warm water in a circular motion. After all the scrub has been washed off pat your face dry with a towel and admire your pretty face in the mirror. This scrub will leave your face clean and soft.

Whether you use this, another homemade scrub, or a store bought scrub you should exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week to keep it healthy. Try this out and it just might be a new part of your beauty routine!

Simply honey & brown sugar,

Lis
